Decisive?
Last weekend in the baking heat Hope and I decided to take a walk up to the summit of Cleeve Hill in Cheltenham. As we were wondering round and I was taking some photo’s Hope brought up how there are never any pictures of us together due to the fact I wont let anyone else apart from her use my camera. As a muse we have endless pictures of her in all the places we go but never the standard couple picture. As I was processing these images I began to think about why we take those pictures holding the camera out at arms length or asking a passer-by to have the honour of immortalizing ourselves together in that place. What are we saying with these photos. “We were here then”..? That’s a bit old hat. Maybe its just about shared experience, maybe it’s about capturing the feelings you only ever feel in the presence of that person. I decided that rather than have that one decisive moment when the clouds part and the birds are singing and our love is infinite, I would try using a group of images presented as a mini montage to represent all that that one single image would say. All four of the images that were used were taken from that same shoot. It’s a little bit sentimental in comparison to the rest of my work but it filled the brief as far as Hope was concerned so to me that's a success.
